Accident
An unexpected event which results in serious injury or illness of an employee and may also result in property damage.
Injury
Any damage incurred to a person's body e.g. cut finger, strained back, twisted knee.
Illness
Rapid onset of pain and discomfort e.g. feeling dizzy, acute chest pain.
Incident
Any event that causes damage equipment or environment that interrupts business activity e.g. oil leak, racking hit, pallets fall from forks.
Hazard
A hazard is anything that has the potential to cause harm.
Maintenance
An issue with the facilities within the building. Example: A leaking tap or a broken door handle.
Near Miss
An unplanned event that could have caused injury or property loss but didn’t. Example: Someone who is not paying attention, walks out in front of a moving vehicle, the vehicle screeches to a halt narrowly avoiding a collision.
